The facade is the most characteristic and differentiating element of a building with its geometry and morphology altogether. From the earliest designs, in which the facade, besides being the building envelope, also had a structural function, it sought to provide fixed elements of decorated glass or windows allowing the entry of light, ventilation and give to the construction an element that made it different from the rest. For a long time the design and evolution of facades has been focused on the search of the aesthetic, visual impact and distinctiveness of the buildings.
Today ́s trend is to consider the facade not only as a purely decorative element, but as a component that brings great value to the whole building. Without neglecting aesthetics, terms such as comfort, sustainability, and security are introduced. Nowadays to know and master these terms is essential. A proper design to the geographical and meteorological conditions in the area, a thermal study, acoustic, lighting and a good plan for the utilization and generation of energy, will impact on a construction of high performance, sustainable and great durability that will be reflected in return with high value of the property.
